Centrally situated in the pristine Floridian landscape of Destin is the Indian Bayou Golf Club. Just a half mile from sugar sand beaches 27 outstanding holes are calling all golfers. The formidable three nines are aptly named after Native American tribes – the Seminole, Choctaw and the Creek. Play any combination of the nines to form an enjoyable 18 with spectacular scenery and superb conditions. The slope and rating of the nines from 132- 142 on the medium to high range highlight the challenge of the golf club. Each combination stretches around 7000 yards, but plays more like 7200 yards. Rated 4 ½ stars by Golf Advisor, all reviews concur this is one you don’t want to miss. It is a fun round as long as you don’t care or if you do care, as long as you don’t miss the fairway. It truly is about the Indian and not the arrows. The signature hole is the finishing #9 on the Creek. This 552-yard par 5 has twin bunkers that form a driving alley requiring an accurate tee shot. The closing yardage is bordered on the left side all the way to the green by a lake.
Exceptional facilities are ideal for wedding, banquet and corporate events. There are numerous condo rental options for guys and gal trips along with national hotel chains in the area. After golf, assistant Pro Aaron suggests the extremely popular paddle boarding on nearby beaches and lakes. His favorite local restaurant is Beauchamp’s. Fresh seafood is always a plus in Destin’s native cuisine.
Now that the threat of Hurricane Irma has passed and all those stinking, smelly kids (just kidding) are back in school, there is no better time to visit the Emerald Coast.
If you are looking for fast greens and perfect conditions, Indian Bayou Golf Club should be on your must play list. This is a public/semi-private club so if you fall in love with it, see Head Pro Jim Carpenter about Men’s and Ladies golf leagues and options for membership.
