Named the 2015 Golf Course of the Year by the Michigan Golf Course Owners Association (MGCOA), Forest Dunes Golf Club is already a top destination and is expected to continue growing as Lew Thompson, new owner as of 2012, is said to have big plans for the future. In order to receive this recognition a course must qualify in exceptional quality of the course; exceptional quality of ownership and management; outstanding contribution to its community; and significant contribution to the game, which Forest Dunes surely does.
The Forest Dunes golf course is described as being a, “Bucket list golf course,” meaning if you haven’t played it already you should. Tom Weisskopf beautifully designed this forest and hills course to provide a risk and reward system on each hole. A game of golf on this course is challenging and peaceful for players of all levels. Forest Dunes is excited to announce they are building a second course which is expected to be ready by the summer of 2016. Tom Doak is coming back to the US just for this project which he is designing to be the world’s first reversible 18 hole course.
The recently built Lake AuSable lodge is only 35 yards from the first tee. It is a 11,000 square foot, 14 room hotel just south of the Adirondack style clubhouse. When you stay at Forest Dunes the activities are endless, along with golf you can fly fish, lounge on the beach of Lake AuSable, canoe, work out in the top-notch fitness center, or even get a massage. Sangomore’s restaurant, located in the clubhouse is some of the finest American cuisine.
Add Forest Dunes to your golf destination bucket list because it is a top-notch golf experience that only keeps getting better.
